Hello there! I'm

Jake Meyer

Software Engineer, Manager

Modernization & Legacy Migration Specialist

After spending many years with U.S. Military Intelligence in both analytical and software developer roles, I shifted fully to State and Commercial work in 2017.

My experience as both Analyst and Developer make me an excellent problem solver, and a concise and straightforward Solutions Architect.

Today, most of my work involves migrating customers from legacy equipment, such as Bull Mainframes and systems like IBM's AS/400, as well as designing new solutions to their legacy application catalog.

I have 13 years of relevant experience, so if you're not sure how to approach that iron beast in the basement, let me help!

Feb 2021 - Present | Oklahoma Office of Management & Enterprise Services
Manager – Application Modernization

OMES acts as the State of Oklahoma's technology provider. We work with other State agencies and offer a range of services; including infrastructure, Software Development services, and vendor solutioning.

For the last two years, I have been dedicated directly to Oklahoma Human Services; Oklahoma's largest State agency.

Key Points:
  • Hired and managed 3 SCRUM teams.
  • Enveloped and managed Legacy Development team.
  • Managed a total of 33 developers.
  • Oversaw work on 10+ projects at any given time.
Dec 2019 – Feb 2021 | Oklahoma Office of Management & Enterprise Services
Senior Software Engineer - API Developer & Integrator

As a Senior Software Engineer at OMES, my primary role was not to be dedicated to any one Agency at any given time, but rather to be assigned when and where needed; particularly for emergencies or more specialized requests. I was originally brought onto the team as a contractor, but eventually transitioned into a full-time State employee.

Key Points:
  • Designed, developed, and maintained OMES Web REST API
  • Migrated 40+ years of IMS data to SQL.
  • Helped emergency rebuild of Oklahoma's Unemployment system during COVID.
  • Worked on a variety of smaller .NET, JS, and Java projects as needed.
Sept 2017 – Sept 2019 | Indrasoft / Tinker Air Force Base
Lead Developer/Team Lead

The finance divisions at Tinker AFB had, over many years, developed an intricate and complicated web of 35+ Microsoft Access Databases to manage certain apsects of accounting.

My primary role was to migrate this system to a new, modern ASP.NET based web application that exactly mirrored the current Access-based one both visually and operationally.

Key Points:
  • Developed new software to translate MS Access forms to HTML/ASP.NET
  • Migrated all data to MS SQL Server in a custom schema.
  • Translated all VBS code to C# stubs.
  • Translated 2500+ Access queries to T-SQL stubs.

|Other Pursuits|

Systems Architecture | Windows and Linux
Home Lab

In order to have a safe and suitable environment for enterprise development, I built and maintain a home lab.

Although my servers are not the latest and greatest, they still perfectly serve their purpose.

Key Services:
  • Dell R320 | Windows Server 2019 - Data Center Edition
  • Dell R320 | Microsoft DNS Server
  • Dell R320 | Microsoft Active Directory
  • Dell R710 | Ubuntu Server 18.04.6
  • Dell R710 | Emulated Bull Mainframe
  • Dell R710 | MS-SQL Server for Linux
AI & ML | Text Generation and Chat LLM's
Locally Hosted AI Services

There are many opensource AI and ML solutions available on HuggingFace, and I've built local services to take advantage of a few of them.

Since GPU power is personally cost prohibitive, I must run CPU only. However, this gives ample opportunity to find ways to optimize their operation.

Key Points:
  • Self hosted Llama-2-7b-Chat RAG with Socket.io front-end.
  • GPT-J-6b and SOLAR-10 Text Generation.
  • SQL Based ticketing system for longer running requests.
  • Internally hosted, Angular based front end for Text Generation.
